The County of Ventura and the Ventura County Arts Council are hosting the "Flourish and Flow" art exhibition to celebrate Asian-American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month in May. The exhibition, curated by PINAYSPHERE, features over 60 pieces of artwork from AAPI artists aged 17-52, including paintings, digital drawings, collages, photographs, and 3D sculptural pieces. The goal is to highlight often overlooked AAPI voices and provide exposure to AAPI artists in the County's Atrium Gallery. The exhibit will be open until June 7, 2023, with a closing reception on that day from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., allowing visitors to meet the artists and engage in an artist talk.

FIDM Alumni

Jen's inspiration to create PINAYSPHERE came from her grandmother's untold story as a healer and matriarch, and she aims to provide a platform for youth to connect with their ancestors and culture. FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising) played a crucial role in preparing Jen for her career, teaching her valuable networking skills and industry insights.

The event aims to highlight the contributions and influences of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans to the United States' history and culture.

Kollective Hustle

PINAYSPHERE aims to create a supportive community for female Filipino youth to expand their cultural imprint and pursue artistic expression. The organization offers mentorship, art programs, and art exhibitions to empower young artists and combat the colonial mentality that discourages them from pursuing artistic careers. The group seeks to decolonize the approach to art, beauty, and media, encouraging artists to embrace their true identities and challenge Eurocentric standards.
